Event venues
The coastal Bay of Plenty is home to a large number of venues to suit organisations looking to hold multisport events, concerts and more.
Aquatic and watersport
The Bay of Plenty is known as one of New Zealand's finest aquatic recreation centres. The region is home to several marinas that work well for highly visible sailing, kayaking or other water-based events, while the Mount Maunganui Main Beach is just one beach area that is busy throughout the year hosting surf lifesaving, beach volleyball and surfing competitions.
In addition, Baywave is great venue choice if you are looking to hold a swimming or water polo tournament; the centre has a 25-metre lap pool as well as a gym, sauna, spa and steam room so it’s also ideal for practice sessions for sporting teams.
Sports grounds
A large number of sports grounds and reserves can cater for larger groups and the grounds can often be used at no charge. The city of Tauranga has dozens of sporting clubs and grounds to cater for larger-scale events, including Blake Park, which hosts the annual Blues Brews & BBQ event each summer for around 8,000 people.
Parks
Parks throughout the region include the centrally located Wharepai Domain as well as McLaren Falls Park and Yatton Park. The TECT All Terrain Park includes some 1261 hectares of land that is being transformed to cater for mountain biking, rallying, motocross, firearm sports, 4x4, equestrian, tramping, angling, orienteering and more. The park will be developed in stages starting in 2008.
Golf courses
The coastal Bay of Plenty offers a number of golf courses that can hold golf tournaments, weddings and other functions. Courses are set near kiwifruit orchards in Katikati, on the shores of the Tauranga Harbour or set amongst farmlands.
Stadium
Baypark Stadium is Bay of Plenty's sports, events and entertainment hub. In addition to being home to Baypark Speedway events, it also holds Bay of Plenty Steamers rugby games. Baypark is an ideal venue to hold large-scale exhibitions, concerts and functions.
